Medicine Hat + online adult counselling from anywhere in Alberta
Most of the time, we can handle the ups and downs of life with the encouragement of family and friends. There are times, however, when experiences such as a relationship ending, a miscarriage, the loss of a job, caring for our aging parents, or even the death of a pet can turn our world upside down, challenging us, and overwhelming our coping abilities and confidence.
Experiences that test us at this level often involve painful and meaningful losses that leave us feeling stuck and force us to deeply question ourselves, others, and the world.
Why did this happen? How will I get through this? When will it stop hurting? Or now what? - sound familiar, you're not alone.
The experience of loss, through change or death, occurs in a moment of time yet the aftereffects can endure a lifetime if we don't acknowledge our experience with it.
What I've learned is that if we avoid dealing with painful or distressing life events, the problem festers and resides in the background, drawing energy away from our day-to-day living, often resurfacing in unwanted ways.
If you’re struggling with an issue that is having an impact on your life in a significant way, counselling can help.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN ADULT COUNSELLING
At City Centre Counselling, I'll provide you with an opportunity to explore the confusing, painful, or problematic areas of your life in a safe, unbiased, and protected space.
My counselling services are trauma informed, culturally responsive, open, and affirmative, supportive to people of all genders, sexual orientations, backgrounds, ethnicities, and religious practices.
Unlike a relationship with a friend, relative, or other caring person, counsellors do not just listen – they provide a means for clients to hear themselves more clearly.
HOW I CAN HELP
I believe that "we are both learners and teachers" within the counselling space.
What this means is that as your counsellor, I'm not here to "fix" you or tell you what you "should or should not" do and I don't assume I know what is "best" - you're the expert of your life even if you don't feel that way right now.
My role is to provide a "listening ear" and offer a professional perspective based on my education, training, and experience. Together we'll develop a personalized plan and work toward the changes you seek.
For some clients, this may involve learning new skills to manage difficult emotions or modify problematic ways of thinking. For others, it can involve examining the past by exploring family dynamics and patterns while others may need to work through difficult life events or trauma.
In all cases what unfolds is an opportunity for you to gain insight, learn how to better cope, and develop strategies to live a more satisfying and fulfilled life.
Remember every challenge can be an opportunity in disguise. It’s about changing how we perceive things and seeing our problems as possibilities for something better. When you're ready, I'm here.
At City Centre Counselling, I strive to provide accessible and affordable counselling services. An individual adult counselling session is $120.00 for a 60-minute session.
For those without insurance, I offer a sliding scale fee to accommodate your financial needs. This can be discussed during the initial phone consultation prior to your first appointment.
Great question. At City Centre Counselling, direct billing is available for adult counselling sessions. However, not all insurance providers participate in direct billing. In these cases, at the time of your session, I accept cash or e-Transfer and will provide you with a receipt to submit to your provider for reimbursement.
Although insurance is helpful to have, it's not straightforward. I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to find out the specifics of your plan. And check out FAQ to learn more about insurance and my practice.
Yes. At City Centre Counselling ALL services are available in person, online, or through a hybrid approach (combining both in person and online sessions).
