Meaningful connection from anywhere in Alberta

Regardless of what you're going through or where you are in Alberta - Medicine Hat, Drayton Valley, or Cold Lake - if you're considering connecting with a counsellor we can connect, online.

At City Centre Counselling ALL services- adult counselling, teen counselling, parenting support, family counselling, and relationship counselling- can be accessed online through the safe and secure web-based telehealth platform 'Jane'. Using a computer, tablet, or mobile device you can connect online from anywhere in Alberta.

Connect from the comfort of your home

Online counselling is a practical and convenient option for clients:

  • living in a rural or isolated area with limited access to mental health supports
  • unable to attend counselling together (family, relationship, or parenting support)
  • who have medical, mental health, or mobility issues - regrettably, City Centre Counselling is not wheelchair accessible
  • who prefer the comfort of their own space

However, despite the benefits, there are certain limitations with online sessions compared to in person sessions that can include:

  • some people find online counselling less personal
  • miscommunication between client and counsellor may occur due to not being in the same room or due to technical issues
  • confidentiality may not be guaranteed in your household if you have limited access to a quiet, private space
  • online therapy may not be covered by all insurance providers

But don't let these issues deter you from accessing online counselling, there are easy steps we can take to maximize our online experience.

Tips for a positive online therapy experience

In the privacy of her bedroom a teen connects online for a teen counselling appointment.

To ensure your privacy and comfort, here are a few suggestions:

  • Find a private and quiet location, free of distractions for your online therapy session
  • Use earbuds or headphones
  • Use your own device on a secure internet connection - avoid using a free or public Wi-Fi network
  • Make sure your device has the latest operating system and recommended security updates - Jane works best with Chrome
  • Prior to therapy speak with your insurance provider to learn about the specifics of your plan

How to Get Connected Online

From the comfort of his home a man in a wheelchair connects on his laptop for online therapy.

  1. When you're ready call City Centre Counselling for a free 30-minute phone consultation OR you can schedule the consultation through my online booking page. This call is required before you can book your first online therapy appointment.
  2. Once you've scheduled your first session, you'll receive a "Welcome" email from Jane. You'll be prompted to set up a personalized client account which allows you to manage appointments, receive appointment notifications, access forms, join online appointments and much more.
  3. You'll also receive a "Thank You for Booking" confirmation email. Please ensure the attached intake/consent form is completed prior to your appointment.
  4. Then on the day of your appointment, approximately 30-minutes prior to your session, you'll receive an "Upcoming Appointment" reminder email with a "Begin Appointment" button.
  5. Once you have found a quiet, comfortable, and private space to conduct your online appointment, about 5-minutes prior to the start time of your session click on the "Begin Appointment" button, a new tab will open.
  6. I'll be notified that you are waiting and ready to begin your session. I'll then join and we'll begin your online session.
  7. Should you require help to join your session, view the video below or contact me and we'll troubleshoot together.
